VNX28EP-2

High ionic removal

Our Continuous Electrodeionization (CEDI) systems based on the VNX28EP-2 module are designed and manufactured to further purify reverse osmosis product water to ultra pure or high purity water (0.055 – 0.5 μS/cm). These pre-engineered and ready-to-run CEDI systems are fully factory acceptance tested to significantly reduce installation and start-up costs and are available in a range from 2.8 to 37.6 m3/h. The outstanding design and use of Ionpure’s® patented continuous electrodeionization technology ensures high reliability, minimizes maintenance and eliminates use of regeneration chemicals.

Technology

How it works.

The water passing through the product compartments is deionized to pure water, while the rest of the water is flowing into the reject compartments. This water takes away concentrated salts and small amounts of gases formed on the electrode surfaces. The reject water exiting the CEDI unit is typically re-used and mixed with the RO feed water in a vented break tank.

Control & Construction

VNX28EP-2 systems are skid mounted and include a sophisticated control system based on standard PLC / HMI interface and all necessary instrumentation for a reliable and continuous operation. The control system allows easy integration of feature options and auxiliary communication via Ethernet, Modbus or Profibus. Piping is available in PVC, PP or Stainless Steel. These CEDI systems are specifically designed for high ionic removal including weakly charged ions like silica, boron and CO2 (up to 18 MOhm.cm).

CEDI technology features:

  • Continuous process, constant product water quality
  • Low operating costs, electricity only
  • Environmentally friendly, no regeneration chemicals
  • High system recovery up to 95%
  • Typically the reject water is recirculated upstream RO
  • 1000’s systems installed worldwide up to a capacity
    of 1,500 m3/h

Unique system design

CEDI system highlights

1
The CEDI feed water line: Connection is by 3-part union or flanged connection. The feed water stream is continuously monitored and safeguarded by conductivity, temperature and pressure instruments. A sample point is also included which is grounded for safety. Water is directed to the product inlet header of the CEDI module(s) for purification in the product compartments.
2
At the opposite end of the CEDI module(s), a smart control valve with integrated ultrasonic flowmeter diverts a small stream (5-10%) of the feed water to the concentrate inlet water header. This concentrate water stream collects ions from the feed water in the reject compartments, to be discharged as reject water. The smart valve automatically adjusts the flow to maintain a constant recovery rate and compensate for hydraulic variations.
3
All components are mounted on a SST304 skid, supported by leveling feet for easy positioning. An operator platform ensures safe and convenient access to the control panel. Open cable trays safely route wiring to the electrical control cabinet. The CEDI module(s) contain 3-part union hydraulic connections for quick assembly and disassembly of the feed, product and reject water lines.
4

The CEDI product water line channels purified water from the CEDI module(s) to a common outlet point. The product water stream is continuously monitored and safeguarded by conductivity, temperature, flow and pressure instruments. Sampling points are included and grounded for safety reasons. The product line connection is a 3-part union or flanged connection.

5
The CEDI reject water line discharges concentrated water from the CEDI module(s), removing the ions collected in the reject compartments. The reject water stream is monitored and safeguarded by conductivity, temperature and pressure instruments. Grounded sampling points are included for safety. A diaphragm valve is used to regulate the reject backpressure to maintain the required pressure balance (0.1-0.5 bar) between the product water and reject water streams.
6
The Siemens HMI Unified Operator Panel is an advanced graphical touchscreen interface for intuitive system operation and monitoring of operational data. The CEDI operation is displayed as clear and well-organized P&ID, with all relevant screens and parameters easily accessible. The Siemens S7-1500 series PLC supports ethernet communication (Profinet or Modbus) for optional connection to a master PLC or DCS system.
7
The electrical cabinet is an easily accessible, ventilated, and lockable unit with an IP54 rating, housing the power supply, PLC and all electrical controls and connections. The HMI Unified Panel is mounted on the electrical cabinet door and is easily accessible to the operator. The main power switch and CEDI system CE plate are located on the side.
